PILLARS holds the licence to use the contents of the following three courses within New Zealand’s prison system.
1. How to Keep Your Family Alive While Serving a Prison Sentence
2. How to Re-enter Family Life and Society After Completion of a Prison Sentence
3. What in the World are we Going to do with Him?
PILLARS has the sole responsibility of choosing the people or other groups within New Zealand who will lead this course and accepts responsibility for the use of the materials and the people they train.
The course consists of four 2.5 hour classes that will provide information to prisoners that will assist them in their efforts to keep their families intact and growing while they are in prison.
The course follows the intergenerational model suggested by Ivan Boszormenyl-Nagy in his Contextual Family Therapy approach, plus information from current literature and other materials.
The programme is based on the well known book “As Free As An Eagle,” the inmate’s family survival guide by Dr Daniel J. Bayse
