Make a life-changing investment

Pillars is a registered charity and currently over 70% of the funds needed to provide our programmes come through fundraising in the community such as philanthropic trusts, foundation grants, sponsorship, gifts and donations from events and fundraising initiatives. We have set a target to reach 500 children by 2020 and we are going to need partners wanting to make a strong community investment to help us achieve this goal.

When you invest in Pillars as a charity you are investing in research and evidence based programmes of support that impact some of the most vulnerable children in our community. Pillars programmes aim to make transformational and long term impact on these children's lives through the core programme which is a life changing gift of a mentor to be their stable and positive role model. The long-term nature of Pillars one-to-one mentoring relationships provides stability that is critically important for the vulnerable children we support. We ask our volunteer mentors to commit for a minimum of 12 months.

This is not an isolated effort, we are working to empower their parent/caregiver to make positive decisions for their care and wellbeing.  The outcomes Pillars measure from the programme show improvements in health and wellbeing, family relationships, participation in learning and positive community activities and living crime free lifestyles.

The average cost of a mentoring match is $3,000 as outlined in our sponsorship proposal. Each gift of $3,000 enables us to match a child to a mentor for a minimum of a year.  We also need support to deliver the vital wrap-around support with their families and every dollar raised helps us do that.

Pillars ambassador Miriama Kamo explains why children of prisoners not only need our support, but deserve to have the same opportunities to thrive as any other child sitting next to them at school.

Fundraising ideas

Battle of Rebuild

Set a challenge!

Whether its going into the ring for charity, or seeing if you can go for a month without chocolate there are lots of ways to raise money for Pillars as your charity of choice.

Every $3,000 raised helps another child off our mentoring waiting list.

In 2015, nine business people from Christchurch chose to fight for Pillars in the Battle of the Rebuild, raising over $80,000 in events leading up to the big event and through auction proceeds on the night. They chose Pillars because they knew it was a trusted charity supporting local children who are the vulnerable of the vulnerable.

You can  make Pillars your charity of choice for your community or business event, conference or work party. A corporate partner added a charity component to their annual conference by asking attendees to donate goods for an auction over dinner.  They also had a fun fining system where they fined attendees for being late and other misdemeanors!

With great platforms like Givealittle it is easy to get your family, friends and networks to support your fundraising efforts.
